Early on Mads Nissen realized that he had three main interests and ambitions as motive powers in his life. He began working in political organizations in order to change the things in todays world and society, which he felt needed to be changed.
He wanted to explore his creative skills and experience life around the world. In 1998 that was exactly what he did during a nine month stay in Venezuela, where he took up photography.

"I started taking pictures of the things I saw. Of the poverty. Then it came to me, that through photojournalism I was able to combine my ambitions. And instead of always finding the right answer, I came much more natural for me, to ask the questions thru the journalism. And that's what I have been trying to do ever since. I want to describe social conditions through social reports. It is the knowledge of the stories out there, who ought to be told, that is important for me."

Mads Nissen has been working for the danish national newspaper Dagbladet Politiken in 1 1/2 year as part of his education at The Danish School of Journalism, Photojournalism (Graduated January 2007).

Mads Nissen is now based in Shanghai, China where he will take freelance assignments.
